Two-year starter who posted 47 tackles (12.5 for loss) and six sacks as a junior in 2016. Made 36 tackles (5.5 for loss) with three sacks in 2015.
Productive college pass rusher with poor size and speed numbers. Plays with excellent pad level and leverage, fires off the snap with an explosive first step and gets a lot of momentum going up the field. Easily changes direction, shows speed moving laterally to the flanks and works his hands to protect himself. Rarely off his feet and plays with balance and body control. Works hard to defend the run. Keeps his feet moving and can bend off the edge.
Lacks bulk and size and is easily out-positioned from the action. Handled in one-on-one blocking situations and is almost singularly a first-step lineman. Lacks the pure speed for the linebacker position.
Sickels was very productive on the college level but has athletic and size limitations for Sunday football. He’s a situational player who could be used as a nickel pass rusher at defensive end or standing over tackle, and he’ll even get consideration as an inside linebacker on zone blitzes.
