Four-year starter who converted from the defensive line to the offensive line before the 2013 season. Earned First Team All-Big South honors in 2016 and received FCS All America recognition. Named All-Big South as a junior in 2015. Made 39 career starts.
College left tackle who projects to guard. Sets with a wide base, sinks his butt and plays with excellent leverage. Correctly places his hands into defenders and jolts them with a violent punch. Explosive, fires into blocks and plays with a nasty attitude. Looks to take out multiple defenders in a single play and gets a pad on opponents to knock them from their angles of attack. Stays square, plays with solid fundamentals and keeps his head on a swivel. Quick out to the second level, moves relatively well on his feet and effectively uses his hands.
Lacks footwork off the edge and lateral blocking range. Exploited by speed rushers. Shows stiffness in his game and ends up on the ground too much.
Austell was productive as well as durable at Charleston Southern and offers possibilities as a developmental guard who could eventually play with the first team in the right system.
