Bio:
Two-year starter who earned First Team All-AAC honors in 2016 after leading the conference with 129 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, recording three sacks and forcing one fumble. Named Second Team All-AAC as a junior with a team-leading 106 tackles (3.5 for loss) and one forced fumble. Made 26 tackles (2.5 for loss) in 2014. Sat out the 2013 season after transferring from Northwestern.
Pos:
Small but explosive linebacker who makes plays sideline-to-sideline. Flows well laterally to the action and immediately alters his angle of attack without losing momentum. Plays with terrific quickness and speed and is fast moving in every direction. Gets depth on pass drops, displays a nose for the football and quickly closes to the action. Breaks down well and uses his hands to protect himself.
Neg:
Easily disrupted by blocks and at times knocked completely clear from the action. Not a secure tackler. Does not have great production against the pass.
Analysis:
Wilson entered the season graded as a potential second-day pick by scouts but has size limitations. He’s a run-and-chase linebacker who has enough underlying ability to back up as a weak-side linebacker in a 4-3 alignment or on the inside of a 3-4 scheme where he’s allowed to pursue ball carriers.
