Bio:
Four-year starter who earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors and led Appalachian State in tackles in each of his final three seasons with the Mountaineers. Made 102 tackles (nine for loss) with 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and six pass breakups in 2017. Recorded 98 tackles (4.5 for loss), three sacks and three INTs as a junior. Posted 104 tackles (7.5 for loss), four sacks and three interceptions in 2015. Started six games as a true freshman and made 43 tackles with one sack and one forced fumble.
Pos:
Hard-working but athletically limited linebacker best in the box. Fundamentally sound, fires up the field to defend the run and sells out on the blitz. Hustles to the action, displays solid closing burst and plays faster than his 40 time. Instinctive, gets depth on pass drops and displays an excellent head for the ball. Rarely off his feet and works hard to get off blocks. Tough and plays while injured.
Neg:
Lacks quick or fluid change of direction and the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack. Does not always play under control and overpursues the action on occasion. Marginal next-level size and speed.
Analysis:
Boggs is a hard-working defender who gets the most from his ability but comes with limited upside. His instincts, competitiveness and physical nature could help him latch onto a roster as a backup inside linebacker and special-teams player.
