Bio:
Three-year starter named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 in 2016, making 27 tackles with 1.5 sacks. Tore his ACL in the 2015 season opener against Virginia and missed the rest of the season. Earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors as both a freshman and a sophomore, combining for 87 tackles (10 for loss), 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Earned Freshman All-American recognition in 2013 after starting seven games.
Pos:
Athletic and explosive defensive tackle prospect whose draft stock has been on a straight line north. Fires off the snap with a tremendous first step, plays with exceptional pad level and keeps his feet moving. Attracts a lot of attention in the middle of the line drawing double-team blocks, yet plays hard and holds his ground. Stout at the point, fires through gaps and proves tough to handle. Shows pass-rush skill on the inside and can change direction then slide down the line to make plays in pursuit.
Neg:
Has an injury history. Struggled with weight issues in the past. Oftentimes gets beaten by blocks if he does not get the first step on opponents.
Analysis:
Vanderdoes is powerful and athletic and plays with great explosion and intensity. If he stays healthy and continues to progress on the field, he offers starting potential on Sundays.
