Pos:
Much-debated quarterback with next-level physical skills but an inconsistent game. Patient in the pocket, buys time for receivers and has a quick release. Possesses a laser strong arm, drives deep throws and easily gets passes through small windows. Throws with a fluid delivery, knows where receivers are on the field and spreads the ball around. Arm strength enables him to make a lot of plays ordinary quarterbacks are unable to make. Effectively makes the throw on the move and can pick up yardage with his legs when necessary.
Neg:
Makes some awful passes and poor decisions. All over the place with his accuracy and makes wide-open receivers adjust to grab errant throws, which leads to a major loss of opportunity after the catch. Underthrows receivers and shows poor pass placement. Does not always find defenders in the back seven. Lacks a sense of timing and is often late with throws.
Analysis:
From the perspective of the total physical package, Lock grades with any quarterback of the past three drafts, and at the top of his game he presents himself as a franchise signal caller with the ability to make all the passes. He defeat opponents in the vertical game, on underneath routes and with his feet if necessary. Lock is awfully inconsistent, misses open receivers and puts pass catchers in precarious situations with his penchant to spray throws. He comes with incredible upside, but Lock will need coaching from the ground up. More importantly, he must be more consistent in his all-around game to have a career at the next level.
