Bio:
Two-year starter who earned First Team All-Big 12 honors in each of those seasons. Made 63 tackles (nine for loss) with 1.5 sacks and a team-high three forced fumbles in 2017. Led Kansas with 20 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles and posted 26 tackles as a junior. Recorded 23 tackles (five for loss) and 3.5 sacks in 2015.
Pos:
Game-impacting pass rusher with nice upside. Plays with great lean and terrific leverage, keeps his feet moving and holds the point of attack. Fluid, agile and collapses down the line of scrimmage to defend the run. Can bend off the edge, stays in his pass-rush angle and plays with tremendous balance. Effective when he gets his hands up and shows ability in pursuit and speed up the field. Quickly changes direction, immediately alters his angle of attack and loses little momentum getting to the play.
Neg:
Slow off the snap and lacks great first-step quickness. Often late with his hands. Lacks bulk and gets engulfed by opponents.
Analysis:
As a sophomore, Armstrong displayed himself as a game-disrupting pass rusher who constantly made plays behind the line of scrimmage. His stats fell off last season, as teams focused on him and made his job more difficult. He’s a solid athlete who must get bigger and stronger, but Armstrong offers potential standing over tackle or out of a three-point stance.
