Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-MVFC honors in all three of those seasons. Earned AP FCS All-America honors in 2016. Finished his senior season with 58 tackles, 14 sacks, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
Pos:
Athletic pass-rushing defensive front-seven player rising up draft boards. Plays with outstanding pad level, uses his hands to protect himself and easily bends off the edge. Breaks down well, knocks blockers back off the line with terrific hand punch and gets a lot of force going up the field. Immediately alters his angle of attack, easily slides down the line of scrimmage and pursues to make plays from the backside. Displays speed in a straight line as well as laterally, disrupts the action and forces quarterbacks to get rid of the ball earlier than planned or step up to avoid pressure. Stays on his feet, plays with excellent balance and holds his ground against blocks. Plays with a nasty attitude and works to get involved in the action.
Neg:
Will struggle taking on or defeating blocks at the next level. Primarily used up the field or in the box and rarely asked to make plays moving in reverse.
Analysis:
Rivers was a disruptive force for Youngstown State and is a prospect who comes with a high amount of upside as a 3-4 outside linebacker or one-gap defensive end. He’s a natural pass rusher with outstanding athleticism and a prospect who will only get better as he physically matures and becomes more experienced at the next level.
