Bio:
First-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-Conference USA and led Western Kentucky with seven receiving TDs while catching 52 passes for 688 yards in 2017. Saw limited action the prior two seasons after redshirting in 2014.
Pos:
Formerly unknown tight end coming off a tremendous senior campaign. Tough, displays himself as a good athlete and gives effort in all areas. Quickly gets to top speed, adjusts to errant throws and makes receptions in stride. Lays out and extends for difficult catches, makes a lot of athletic grabs and snatches passes away from his frame. Goes over the middle and takes a pounding but holds onto the throw. Nicely tracks the pass in the air and shows a sense of timing on receptions. Tough and plays injured. Gives effort blocking at the second level and gets results.
Neg:
Rarely used as a blocker on the line of scrimmage. Does not display naturally soft hands. Just one year of production.
Analysis:
After two seasons without a catch on the stat sheet, Yelder came out of nowhere and moves towards the draft as a potential late-round choice. He’s a terrific pass catcher with decent size and offers potential as a blocker. He needs to prove last season was not the exception to the rule and take his game to the next level, and Yelder has the potential to develop into a No. 2 tight end on Sundays.
