Bio:
Three-year starter who was named First Team All-AAC and made 56 tackles (four for loss) with three interceptions and a team-high 12 pass breakups as a senior. Earned Second Team All-AAC honors after leading the team with four interceptions and seven PBUs in 2016. Broke out as a sophomore with 62 tackles (8.5 for loss), four INTs and five pass breakups to earn First Team All-AAC honors.
Pos:
Explosive cover corner best used in a zone system or backed off the line of scrimmage. Displays good awareness, tracks the pass in the air and effectively gets his head back around to make plays on the ball. Possesses a good amount of quickness and shows a solid closing burst and excellent hands for the interception. Explosive, quickly plants and drives to the ball and plays with an aggressive style. Fires up the field to make plays against the run and screen passes.
Neg:
Not tall and will be exploited at the next level. Slow following receivers out of breaks.
Analysis:
Despite a solid junior campaign, Nichols entered the season without a grade from NFL scouts. He’s a solid cornerback who lacks next-level height but offers possibilities in a zone system and should be effective over the slot receiver.
