Two-year starter who racked up 33 tackles as a senior. Finished his career with 45 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception.
Nice-sized cornerback with an inconsistent game. Fast and fluid pedaling in reverse, loses nothing transitioning with opponents downfield and displays a burst out of his plant to the pass. Does not bite on play-action passes or ball fakes, stays with assignments and shows solid ball skills. Stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks, mixes it up throughout the action and gives effort defending the run.
At times late reacting to receivers’ moves off the line and must play catch-up. Struggled with injuries as a senior. Lacks great production for a bigger cornerback on the small-school level.
Rivers was graded as a middle-round pick entering the season but comes off a disappointing campaign where he failed to meet expectations. He offers next-level computer numbers and has previously displayed the necessary skills to line up in nickel or dime packages at the next level but must quickly produce in camp this summer to make a roster.
