Bio:
Junior college transfer who started both his seasons at Utah. Named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 and led the team with 82 tackles (3.5 for loss) while adding 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and four pass breakups in 2017. Started eight games and recorded 52 tackles (five for loss), one forced fumble and three PBUs as a junior.
Pos:
Hard-working linebacker who shows athleticism on the field. Quick, plays with a nasty attitude and attacks ball carriers. Explosive at the point, breaks down well and effectively uses his hands. Effective in pursuit, covers a lot of area and gets depth on pass drops. Shows a quick burst to the action, fires up the field to fill gaps and works hard to defeat blocks.
Neg:
Easily knocked from his angle of attack by blocks and gets caught up in the trash. Long speed is a concern.
Analysis:
Luafatasaga does not get much credit but is a tough, instinctive defender. Though he won’t be selected in the draft, he could be a solid free-agent signing as a backup linebacker in a 3-4 alignment.
