Bio:
First-year starter who earned Second Team All-SEC honors and made 27 tackles (3.5 for loss) with three sacks in 2017 despite missing three games with a knee injury. Posted 21 tackles (3.5 for loss), two sacks and one forced fumble as a junior. Recorded 16 tackles (6.5 for loss) and three sacks in 2015. Tallied seven tackles and two sacks as a true freshman.
Pos:
Explosive and athletic two-gap lineman with huge upside. Breaks down well, plays with leverage and moves well in every direction of the field. Easily changes direction and flows well laterally. Displays outstanding hand technique to protect himself and shows the ability to quickly play off blocks and get to the action. Displays a closing burst, nicely redirects to ball carriers and effectively makes tackles in space. Shows the ability to get out laterally and chase the action with speed. Somewhat effective when asked to play off the line of scrimmage.
Neg:
Inconsistent getting off the snap. Must improve his playing strength, as he’s easily controlled at the point by a single blocker. Average edge rusher.
Analysis:
Hand displayed consistent progress on the field and is one of the more underrated defensive linemen moving towards the draft. He’s an exciting lineman who can be used in a three-man front or potentially as a three-technique tackle. He must improve the finer points of his position, but Hand will start at the next level if he hits on all cylinders.
