Pos:
Terrific small-school pass rusher who showed great development last season. Primarily comes out of a three-point stance, plays with proper pad level and consistently gets leverage on opponents. Fluidly moves about the field, stays with the action and works his hands to protect himself. Possesses a quick first step off the snap, easily changes direction and moves well laterally to get outside the numbers in pursuit. Displays a closing burst and chases the action hard. Does more than pin his ears back and rush up the field and stays with assignments. Can bend off the edge and chases the action hard.
Neg:
Possesses a thin build and gets outpositioned from the action by blockers. Lacks great pursuit speed. Will be a liability against the run out of a three-point stance.
Analysis:
Johnson comes off a terrific campaign and was a weekly nuisance for opponents. He displays a lot of natural pass-rushing skills but must add bulk to his frame and improve his run defense. Johnson comes with upside and should make a practice squad this summer at the very least.
