Bio:
Two-year starter at LSU who transferred from Purdue. Completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,463 yards, 16 touchdowns and two interceptions in 2017. Completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 2,123 yards, 11 touchdowns and five INTs as a junior. Sat out the 2015 season due to transfer rules. Started five games as a sophomore with the Boilermakers before losing his job and completed 54.9 percent of his passes for 800 yards and six TDs with five interceptions. Started the final seven games of his true freshman season and posted a 55.8 percent completion rate, 1,690 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven INTs.
Pos:
Efficient short and intermediate passer who struggles with his downfield accuracy. Displays great patience in the pocket, moves around to give himself a better view of the field and buys time for receivers. Goes through progressions, looks to secondary targets and does not force the ball to covered wideouts. Senses the rush, remains poised and steps up to avoid defenders. Effectively commands and controls the offense. Athletic signal caller who takes off up the field if nothing is available and can pick up yardage with his feet. Keeps his eyes downfield, willingly throws the ball away and rarely makes mistakes.
Neg:
Lacks a deep arm and cannot drive long throws. Passes tend to hang in the air. Inconsistent footwork when he releases the ball.
Analysis:
The Purdue transfer elevated his game once he arrived at LSU and displays a good understanding of the quarterback position, but he lacks the arm strength and downfield accuracy to be anything other than the third man on the depth chart.
