Bio:
Four-year starter who was named Second Team All-America as a senior and earned First Team All-SEC honors in each of his final three seasons at Auburn. Made 23 of 31 field goals and booted 65 touchbacks in 2017. Hit 28 of 32 field goals with an SEC-high 57 touchbacks as a junior. Went 23-for-27 on field goals and posted 49 touchbacks in 2015. Made 18 of 24 kicks and added a conference-high 50 touchbacks as a true freshman while doubling as the Tigers’ punter and averaging over 42 yards per punt.
Pos:
Big-legged field-goal kicker with starting potential. Accurate, hits his field goals from long distance and powers them through the uprights with room to spare. Gets outstanding hang time on kickoffs. Consistently gets his kickoffs into the opposing end zone for touchbacks.
Neg:
Does not get great lift on the ball on longer field goals, which leads to tipped or blocked attempts. Pulls his field goals on occasion. Did not meet expectations last season.
Analysis:
Carlson has one of the strongest legs of any prospect to enter the draft in a number of years. He has some inconsistency, but if coached properly Carlson should have a long career at the next level.
