Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors and caught 22 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns as a junior. Named Honorable Mention All-Pac 12 and made 23 receptions for 222 yards and one score in 2016. Recorded 10 catches for 121 yards and one TD as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Tall, athletic tight end with an unpolished game. Fundamentally sound in all areas. Bends his knees, gets leverage on opponents and keeps his feet and hands active as a blocker. Displays outstanding vision, redirects to opponents and protects the edge well in pass protection. Quickly releases off the line into pass routes, adjusts to errant throws and grabs the pass away from his frame with his hands.
Neg:
Does not play to his 40 time. Has catchable throws slip through his hands. Lacks next-level strength as a blocker.
Analysis:
Schultz is a developing tight end with an improving game and plenty of upside. He’ll need time before he’s NFL-ready but offers the possibility to grow into a starter if he continues to progress.
