Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team FCS All-America honors and led South Dakota State in receptions as both a junior and a senior. Led South Dakota State with 1,111 receiving yards and caught seven touchdowns on 72 catches in 2017 to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Made 92 receptions for 1,293 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016. Named First Team All-MVC and caught 26 passes for 484 yards and three TDs as a sophomore.
Pos:
Athletic tight end prospect developing a complete game. Quickly releases off the line of scrimmage, immediately gets to top speed and finds ways to separate from defenders. Makes difficult over-the-shoulder receptions downfield, adjusts to errant throws and consistently makes catches in stride. Grabs the ball with his hands away from his frame, keeps plays in bounds and works to pick up yardage after the catch. Plays with outstanding awareness, effectively uses blocks after the catch and gives effort in all areas. Blocks with leverage and proper pad level, keeps his head on a swivel and gives effort as a blocker. Strong, stays square and shows the ability to control opponents once engaged at the point.
Neg:
Lacks the explosive burst of speed and isn’t a true downfield threat. Shows some stiffness in his game.
Analysis:
Goedert was a terrific small-school tight end and has all the makings of a next-level starter. He must acclimate himself to the level of competition but has the attitude and mentality to produce as a rookie in the NFL.
