Bio:
Two-year starter named First Team All-ACC as a senior after leading the team in pass breakups (12) for the second straight season. Made 76 tackles (4.5 for loss) with three sacks and one interception. Posted 41 tackles (four for loss), two interceptions and 11 pass breakups as a junior in 2015.
Pos:
Smallish but explosive cornerback with next level ball skills. Fast, shows a burst to the ball and possesses both closing and recovery speed. Gives effort defending the run, makes up a lot of ground on ball handlers and runs down opponents from behind. Tracks the pass in the air, positions himself against opponents and has a nice move to the ball. Covers receivers down the flanks or over the middle with equal effectiveness. Aggressive, works hard in all areas of the game and sells out to make plays.
Neg:
Slow getting off blocks attempting to defend the run or screen passes. Plays off balance. Side shuffles down the field and not quick moving in reverse.
Analysis:
Elder has shown consistent improvement in his game the past two seasons and while he doesn’t possess next level size, he has the ball skills to play on Sunday. He’ll be an asset in nickel or dime packages and should do well on special teams.
