Bio:
Three-year starter who made 48 tackles (two for loss) with two interceptions and six pass breakups in 2016. Recorded 41 tackles (one for loss), two interceptions and five pass breakups as a junior. Sophomore totals include 48 tackles (two for loss), four interceptions, one sacks and 11 PBUs.
Pos:
One-time highly rated cornerback coming off a disappointing season. Keeps the action in front of him, stays with assignments and shows ability in zone coverage. Quickly recognizes routes, tracks the pass in the air and plays instinctively. Gives effort defending the run and wraps up tackling. Stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks and drives to the ball out of his plant.
Neg:
Possesses average closing and recovery speed. Must improve his footwork in reverse, loses transitioning off the line and often plays catch-up down the field.
Analysis:
Entering the season scouts graded Luke as one of the top four senior cornerback prospects in the nation, but his play slipped. He possesses average size and poor speed and is a scheme-specific defensive back who must be put in a system facing the action.
