Bio:
Two-year starter who earned Second Team All-ACC honors and made 40 receptions for 477 yards and four touchdowns in 2017 before suffering a season-ending MCL injury in Miami’s final regular-season game. Caught 28 passes for 334 yards and two scores as a junior. Posted 18 receptions for 237 yards and one score in 2015.
Pos:
Athletic tight end prospect coming off a significant knee injury. Fluidly releases off the line of scrimmage, adjusts to errant throws and makes receptions in stride. Displays relatively strong soft hands and the ability to pull the ball from the air. Looks the pass into his hands, makes receptions away from his frame and keeps plays in bounds after the catch. Gives effort blocking, stays square and seals defenders from the action.
Neg:
Really does not play to his 40 time. Occasionally drops some very catchable throws. Returning from a serious knee injury.
Analysis:
Herndon displayed solid improvement last season until the injury and offers next-level size and speed. He must now prove he’s fully healthy and continue to progress on the field. In a best-case scenario, he could develop into a No. 2 tight end at the next level.
