Bio:
Three-year starter who missed the first five games of his senior season while recovering from a summer knee injury and returned to make seven tackles. Named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and recorded 37 tackles (three for loss), three interceptions and 10 pass breakups in 2016. Started seven games and recorded 25 tackles, two interceptions and five PBUs as a sophomore.
Pos:
Tough, forceful cornerback who plays aggressive football. Fluid transitioning off the line, battles with opponents throughout their routes and shows a burst to the ball out of his plant. Effective facing the action, physically beats down pass catchers to defend throws and gives effort stopping the run. Squares into ball carriers and is an effective tackler in the open field.
Neg:
Slow to locate the ball when his back is to the action. Production fell way off as a senior.
Analysis:
At face value, Jones possesses the size and speed to play at the next level but has shown a lot of inconsistency. The flashes he’s shown the past two years must be turned into consistent playmaking if he wants a career in the NFL.
