Bio:
Four-year starter at left tackle named First Team All-Pac-12 in 2016. Made Second Team All-Pac-12 as a junior and garnered Freshman All-American recognition in 2013. Missed the end of the 2014 season due to torn ligaments in his right knee.
Pos:
Consistent college left tackle who flashes NFL ability. Bends his knees blocking with leverage, fights with his hands and shows the ability to adjust to quick pass rushers or blitzes. Makes proper use of angles, moves well on his feet and plays intelligent football. Quickly gets out to the second level, squares into opponents and shows explosiveness at the point. Fundamentally sound, stands out in pass protection and does a great job using body positioning to seal the edge. Plays with a nasty attitude and works to finish off opponents.
Neg:
Lacks the dominant lower body, doesn’t finish blocks and occasionally gets pushed back into the pocket. Has a host of off-the-field issues which require great inspection. Analysis:
On film Wheeler looks like a legitimate mid-round prospect with possibilities at left tackle or guard. Off the field is a different matter altogether, and character issues may prevent him from being selected at any point during the draft.
