Two-year starter at buck linebacker who was named First Team All-SEC in 2016, making 30 tackles (13.5 for loss) with nine sacks and 24 quarterback hurries. Started seven games as a sophomore in 2015 with 17 tackles (three for loss), one sack and 11 hurries. Missed the 2014 season due to an ACL injury. Recorded 20 tackles (7.5 for loss), four sacks and two forced fumbles as a true freshman in 2013.
Terrific college pass-rushing defensive end who will get consideration as a 3-4 outside linebacker. Explosive, gets a lot of momentum going up the field and plays like a top athlete. Tough to knock off his feet, agile and plays with terrific balance. Fluid moving to every direction, works his hands throughout the play and immediately alters his angle of attack without losing momentum. Slices between blocks to get behind the line of scrimmage, plays with excellent pad level and shows quickness in all his actions. Fires off the snap out of a three-point stance, effectively rushes the quarterback standing over tackle and gives effort defending the run.
Lacks size, is slow getting off blocks and gets engulfed at the point of attack. Can be a liability against the run.
Lawson is a disruptive defender constantly making plays behind the line of scrimmage and forcing quarterbacks to rethink their options. He comes with a good degree of upside potential but must improve his strength at the point of attack and play against the run.
