Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-Mountain West honors in both 2015 and 2016. Finished fourth in the conference with 116 tackles and tied for seventh with 11 tackles for loss as a senior, adding 4.5 sacks and one interception. Ranked second in the Mountain West with 9.5 sacks and fifth with 15 tackles for loss as a junior and recorded a team-high 98 tackles while forcing two fumbles. Named Honorable Mention All-Mountain West in 2014 after posting 83 tackles (10.5 for loss), four sacks, a team-leading four interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Pos:
Tough, hard-working linebacker best defending the run. Plays with a physical nature, quickly locates the action and wraps up tackling. Displays a good head for the ball, breaks down well and effectively sheds blocks getting to the action. Uses his hands to protect himself, possesses a burst of speed and is forceful on the blitz. Sells out and flows well laterally to the action. Remains disciplined with assignments and gets depth on pass drops.
Neg:
Lacks great pursuit speed. Average skill making plays in reverse. Short stature creates mismatches at the next level.
Analysis:
Munson is a competitive and somewhat athletic defender who stacks well against the run and gets the most from his ability. He plays with a special-teams mentality and should make a Sunday roster as a backup inside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment.
