Bio:
Three-year starter who began his career as a tight end before moving to right tackle after redshirting in 2014. Made 25 starts on the right side over the next two seasons and earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2016 before moving to left tackle, starting all 12 games of his junior season and being named First Team All-ACC.
Pos:
Developing offensive line prospect with big upside. Athletic, bends his knees and blocks with proper leverage. Sets with a wide base and anchors at the point. Moves relatively well on his feet and displays blocking ability at the second level. Strong, effective with his hands and stays square. Makes excellent use of angles. Plays with a nasty attitude and works to finish blocks. Easily drives opponents off the line and turns them from the action.
Neg:
Shows stiffness in his game. Does a bit of bending at the waist. Lacks classic footwork.
Analysis:
O’Neill, a former tight end, has shown consistent development and has a good combination of size, athleticism and growth potential. He comes with big upside but may need a year before he’s ready to take the field in the NFL.
