Bio:
Three-year starter who earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as a center in 2017. Named Third Team All-Big Ten as a junior after starting five games at left guard, five at right guard and two at center. Started 10 games at left guard and two at center in 2015 and was named Second Team All-Big Ten.
Pos:
Tough, durable prospect with potential at any of the three interior blocking positions. Blocks with good lean and keeps his feet moving and his hands active. Explosive, strong at the point and plays with a nasty attitude. Keeps his head on a swivel and works well with linemates. Turns defenders from the action, blocks with consistent leverage and seals opponents from the play. Shows the ability to control defenders in the middle of the line and anchors in pass protection. Fires out to the second level and shows the ability to remove linebackers from the action. Effective with shotgun snaps and does a great job quarterbacking the offensive line.
Neg:
Lacks top footwork in space. Struggles finishing blocks. Lacks height and has short arms and small hands.
Analysis:
Though he lacks great measurables for the next level, Allen is a terrific football player who gets the most from his ability. He may never be a star on Sundays but could have a long career as a reserve center and guard.
