Bio:
Three-year starter at right guard who started the final 41 games of his career. Earned First Team All-America honors in 2017. Named Second Team All-SEC as a junior.
Pos:
Big, versatile offensive lineman with starting potential at the next level. Bends his knees and blocks with proper pad level. Correctly places his hands into defenders and works them throughout the action. Possesses a thick, strong build and stays square. Out-positions opponents and steers them from the action. Explosive at the point, gets movement as a run blocker and keeps his head on a swivel. Flashes quickness if asked to kick out or pull across the line of scrimmage.
Neg:
Lacks natural footwork in space. Inconsistent with his hand placement. Could stand to widen his base.
Analysis:
Smith is a strong, smart and versatile lineman who could be used at guard or right tackle. He needs to fine-tune his game, but Smith could see action with the first team as a rookie in the NFL.
