Bio:
First-year starter who led the ACC with 10 receiving touchdowns and made 40 catches for 548 yards as a junior despite battling a shoulder injury. Caught 25 passes for 409 yards and six scores in 2016. Played in six games as a true freshman without catching a pass while battling a toe injury.
Pos:
Large, physical receiver with the ability to control games. Plays like a big-bodied receiver, uses his frame to shield away defenders and beats down opponents to make receptions. Gets up in a crowd, competes to come away with the pass and grabs the ball at its highest point. Tracks the ball in the air, makes acrobatic receptions in contorted positions and displays solid hand-eye coordination. Takes big hits and comes away with difficult catches.
Neg:
Lacks naturally soft hands. Displays limited speed and quickness. Struggles to separate and generally relies on his success in contested situations.
Analysis:
Tate is a receiver in tight end’s body and is a strong pass catcher who’s a solid third-down and red-zone threat. His limited speed and quickness is a concern, but Tate can be an outstanding possession receiver in the right system.
