Bio:
One-year starter who started six games as a senior and spent time at left tackle and left guard. Made five starts at right guard in 2016. Started seven games and played both tackle spots as a sophomore.
Pos:
Andrew Kirkland Large, powerful lineman best in a small area. Stays square, drives defenders off the line as a run blocker and anchors in pass protection. Keeps his feet moving and easily seals defenders from the action. Shows quickness and the ability to slide laterally and pick up the blitz.
Neg:
Doesn’t bend his knees and isn’t a leverage blocker. Must improve his playing balance. Gets a little narrow-based in his setup at times.
Analysis:
Kirkland is a tough small-area blocker with athletic limitations and marginal upside. His size and strength are enticing and could help him grab a roster spot as a backup in a run-oriented offense.
